Purity Wellness

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know if we’re a good fit?
A: We offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to connect, talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, and see if our approach feels right for you.

Q: How long are sessions?
A: Sessions are typically 45 to 55 minutes, though length can vary depending on insurance guidelines. We’ll talk through what makes sense for you.

Q: How often will we meet?
A: Most clients start weekly to build momentum. As you feel more grounded, we can adjust as needed.

Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: We are in-network with Aetna, United Health (coming soon), and Medicare.

Q: How do the fees work for self-pay and out-of-network clients?
A. Some people have more out-of-network benefits than they realize when it comes to mental health. We encourage you to check with your insurance company to learn more about your coverage.

If you’re interested in using out-of-network benefits, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • Does my plan offer out-of-network coverage for mental health services?
  • What is my annual deductible for mental health benefits?
  • What is my co-insurance (the percentage my plan will reimburse)?
  • Is there a limit to how many sessions are covered each year?

We can email monthly superbills to all self-pay and out-of-network clients for reimbursement submissions.

Q: What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?
A: Therapy is clinical care. It focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship distress. Therapy dives into the past and present to understand patterns and support deep healing.

Coaching is not clinical. It is goal oriented and action focused. Coaching works best for clients who don’t have a diagnosable mental health condition but want support with life transitions, career shifts, accountability, or building specific skills.

Q: Do you prescribe medication?
A: No. We are psychotherapists, not prescribers. We do not prescribe medication.

If medication might be helpful for you, we can provide a referral to a psychiatrist or other prescribing provider. Many of our clients attend therapy with us while also seeing a separate provider for medication management. We are happy to coordinate care when appropriate.

Q: Do you offer virtual sessions?
A: Yes, we offer secure video sessions for clients located in Wisconsin.

Q: Is therapy confidential?
A: Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share with your therapist stays between you and them, and we take that trust seriously.

Everything discussed is protected by law and ethical standards, with a few important exceptions required by law:

  • If we have reason to believe a child, elderly person, or dependent adult is being abused or neglected, we are required to report it.
  • If a client poses a serious threat of harm to themselves or others, we may need to take steps to ensure safety, which could include contacting emergency services or family members.
  • If a court of law issues a subpoena for records, we may be required to release information.

Q: What about my privacy?
A: Your privacy matters to us. We use HIPAA compliant electronic health records to store your information securely. Any communication by phone, email, or text is handled with care, though standard email and text are not always fully secure. For virtual sessions, we use encrypted, HIPAA compliant platforms. We never share your information without your written consent, except as required by law (outlined above).

Q: Are you accepting new clients?
A: Yes. We are currently accepting new clients. You can check current availability and request an appointment directly through our online client portal or by contacting us.

Q: What should I expect in my first counseling session?
A: During your initial session, we conduct a thorough intake to understand your mental, emotional, and wellness goals. We explore your history, current challenges, and what brought you in.

Q: What is the best way to reach you?
A: Email or text message is the most effective way to reach us. We are often in session and cannot always answer the phone. We try to respond to emails within 5 business days.
